Prayers

I remember praying for you late nights,
Simply just wanting you to be alright.
Every time I saw you, your eyes told me the same story.
The tale of the caged bird filled with purpose but no idea how to harness it.

I remember praying for you late nights,
Yearning for you to get your life right.
They say the universe conspires to grant you your heart’s desires.
By this I am confused, my prayers were answered but now my life doesn’t involve you.

I remember praying for you late nights,
And seeing visions of the future with you by my side.
Now this is my way of letting it all go.
I prayed for you to be better and you are.
I gotta believe if you weren’t the one,
I will reap in due time what I’ve sown.
