Be Expectant, Be Intentional

This morning I heard, "the blessing is for an appointed time, wait for it."

When I researched it, I was brought to:

1 I will climb up to my watchtower
and stand at my guardpost.
There I will wait to see what the Lord says
and how he[a] will answer my complaint.

2 Then the Lord said to me,
“Write my answer plainly on tablets,
so that a runner can carry the correct message to others.
3 This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.

4 “Look at the proud!
They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked.
But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.
— Habakkuk 2:1-4

We must be intentional and expectant when waiting for the promises of God. This verse speaks to this. The Prophet Habakkuk had just asked God his second question and was waiting on a response from the Father. He didn't just pray and left it there, he was intentional to make his request before God and expectant to receive a response.

I was also reminded of the Day of Pentecost (chronicled in Acts chapter 2) while meditating on this thought. The disciples were not in the upper room by happenstance, they were there intentionally. Jesus told them to wait for the Helper, the Advocate, the Comforter, The Holy Spirit and that's exactly what they did.

Mighty moves of God do not happen by chance. They happen when the people of God are intentional in asking, seeking and knocking, waiting expectantly for the door to be open. Micah 3:10 comes to mind while thinking this through. The context of this verse is around the act of tithing, which I believe speaks to an intentional act of obedience to which God literally says "try me", "prove me", for my fellow Jamaicans "test mi". It is a call to be expectant of God to release his blessings on us.

I feel the need to encourage you this morning. Whatever vision, whatever promise God has given you, know that He cannot lie. He honours his word above his name. It will come to pass. Be intentional in writing it down (the vision, the promise), be clear about what you believe God has said to you. Be expectant through prayerfully seeking His face concerning it believing that He will answer you. Don't let the end of January meet you with an unwritten vision for 2018.

Be expectant, Be intentional. The blessing, the vision, the promise is for an appointed time. Though it seems to tarry, know it will not delay.

Love,
