Who Am I?

Who am I?

I no longer know when I look in the mirror.

Who is this person you see?

Smile on her face as happy as can be.

One would think she has it all together by the way she looks.

Haven’t you ever heard the expression they make about books?

Don’t judge me by my cover because that’s just what it is.

I’m not a phony and no, I don’t belong in showbiz.

There’s something deep inside that keeps me going.

There’s a greater power and to him I all owing.

Isn’t it obvious the pain and hurt I carry around?

But you’d never know because I’ll never make a sound.

A mind of a genius and heart of a thug,

What can make the difference is that four-letter word – LOVE.

I’m in love with my king and he’s the reason for my change.

With this love given to me there’s no way I can be the same.

The work is now done, what am I to do with the tools?

My God says anger lies in the lap of fools.

These thoughts exist below the threshold of my consciousness.

Some may think they are excuses or plain undercover pretentiousness.

They’re oblivious to the fact of who I am and what I’m capable of.

I’m not synthetic, I’m robed in love.

Don’t mistake my aggressive nature for snotty arrogance,

Or my silence for ignorance.

I am who I am by God’s grace and I will not apologize!
