The Crossover

She looked at the only photos she had from her childhood… Three photos and no more. There was something in the little girl’s eyes in these photos that she could not shake. They commanded her attention. They commanded her focus. In those eyes she saw promise. She saw heartbreak. She saw hope. She saw disappointment. In those eyes she saw tomorrow. She saw dreams big enough to fill the universe. She saw a world leader. She saw a community fighter. She saw a freedom fighter … a chain-breaker. It had been a few generation since the last chain-breaker came forth. Could the tides be turning? Unable to break her gaze, in those almond shaped portals, she saw a future.. then distant but now so near. She saw a descendant of Kings… She saw the maker of Kings and great ones. Beyond the hard life, she saw a little girl who was worthy enough of deep love and adoration. She saw a little girl that deserved all the hugs and kisses the world could manage to give. Unlike anything she had seen before, this sight took her breath away. She had seen the fortunes and futures of others but until now she was unable to truly see… herself.

You see, the journey thus far had been a long and hardening one. Until now, they have had to toil and fight with little to no reprieve. Always battle ready, their hearts had grown as callous as their hands and downtrodden feet. To think of a better tomorrow was something that for them belonged only in fairytales.

After all, this was the real and waken world, there was no longer any place for the dreamers to exist. Before the coming of the Darkness, she could find solace in her dreams both day and night. Her sight was living. She could see what others could not even imagine. Her sight provided a hope that would heal generations to come. Her sight was her bridge to Truth. She could not explain it, but some how she knew the life they had been regulated to wasn’t the life that was destined for them. Let her tell it, it was as if they were subjected to live a reality that was not their own. A reality that YAH had not spoken for them.

YAH.

Her first encounter with Him was unlike anything she had ever experienced. The Creator of all things had chosen to call her friend. His presence was life it self, so much so that when He spoke, life had no choice but to come forth. He had come right before the time of the Darkness. And truth be told, if He had not come when He did, she might not have been able to tell this tale. During their time together, He would love on her, speak life and identity into her. It was as if He introduced her to herself. He spoke of things that she had only thought of, those things she had never uttered a word about. Nothing was hidden from Him. From Him, came all things and as a result He knew all things. Even in the time of the Darkness, His presence provided for her a light that men could not conjure up.

He illuminated an existence that was hidden from the natural eye. His words brought to life a reality that she had only seen a time before in her dreams. He had shared with her a version of her life that she had never known. He spoke of Freedom. He spoke of a time when darkness no longer had any power over them. He spoke of a time when they would become Light-Bearers themselves. He had promised that if she had faith enough to believe, one day she would live it. He said that she was chosen to be His Light-Bearer. He said that this was always the plan. He had a habit of saying “So it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end”.

The thing was, His end seemed to have no end. What He shared with her, she could only explain as what one would see when they looked at the horizon… we can only see in part, once we get to the point we see, it continues again until we get to the next point.

There was no end. The only thing that seemed constant was Him.

He told her that this time, this day would come. He had promised that if she did not grow weary, she would see the day when all He had placed in her heart, when all He had shared with her would come to pass.

He had said that when the time had come, they should pack their things but He cautioned them to pack light. Bring only those things necessary, he had said. She decided the only thing she would bring was these three pictures. These pictures would remind of her of where she had come from. They would serve as a reminder of the promise of Him who had brought her this far.

She took a deep breath and let the warm sea air fill her lungs. Her heart and soul smiled, for she knew that He who promised her is Faithful and True.

She was now ready to embrace the life He had foretold.
