The Process: The Importance

And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
— Paul Coelo, The Alchemist

This statement has been a resting place and assurance during my seasons of uncertainty and doubt. Many times we are consumed with the trying to get to the end of a journey or a process that we miss the sweetest part, the "in the between part". On a tombstone the dates lived are normally represented with the date of birth and the date on which the person passed, with the a "-" to represent the life (the time) that individual has lived.

I don't intend to keep you long today, I just wanted to share my heart on my views ;) concerning this '-'. A question I find myself asking is whether the start and end of a person's life is an accurate measure of who they were? Personally, I don't think it is. I mean, we would expect that a person's end should be better than their start, but still, there is so much more missing in accurately portraying the life they may have lived. What was it that impacted this end result? These questions are relevant for me at the moment as I think about struggles I have a had for years and the progress I have made and think, will outsiders be able to appreciate the final result? Is my eagerness to be rid of these struggles and issues helping me? Am I supposed to be learning something while I progress to the state of fully overcoming?

Now,  I don't proclaim to be a philosopher in any right and with this said, I think that the start and finish of a thing does not matter nearly as much as the process that occurs in between. Over the years I have come to believe that the process, many times is the main reason for the entire ordeal in the first place.

It is in the process we learn major key (insert DJ Khalid's voice) lessons that become invaluable as we do life. Our characters are developed during the process. We come into our purpose because of the process. Many time these struggles that we abhor are blessings in disguise. They prevent us from becoming prideful and apathetic. They help us to become more compassionate and merciful towards ourselves and others.

I guess what I want to say to you today as you have taken time to read this post is that your process is important. As much as you can, learn to embrace it and all that comes with it. Knowing that if you become as passionate about the process as you are about getting to the end goal, help will come swiftly to you. I won't pretend that process doesn't hurt like "h e double hockey sticks" at time, because it does. And when the pain tries to urge us to rush the process, we must remember that our heavenly Father gives us grace to continue on the path laid out for us.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”....
— 2 Corinthians 12:9

This is why Paulo Coelho's, The Alchemist has meant so much to me. It is a representation of the idea that even though we could have the treasures we want in an instance, it is the journey to find the treasure that makes the treasure valuable.

I leave you with the following prayer,

May God Bless the day we were born and may He Bless the day we depart; and may the dash on our tomb bring a smile to His heart.
